2020

Participated at the Toronto Woodworking Championship at the International Centre on February 7-9, 2020 with good results.

The show was well organized, but concentrated more on the sales of machines etc. (even a stand to purchase items related to Marijuana !).

A ribbon for the Barn Swallow, inspired by the carving done a while ago during the class with John Leeder in Belleville.

Refinished a stylized LOON to reduce the glossy finish and it was rewarded

and now to the different wood burning projects….

Had added some colours to the German Castle “Burg Eltz” and it went from first place like in Ancaster (in black and white) to second place and was replaced by my own coloured wood burning of the RED POLL.

A last minute project to enter a Japanese Village ( inspired by a Japanese brush painting) did well.

The Hummingbird in the category “Multi Category Creations”( combination of relief and wood burning) did well .

Agneta did not like the colour of the back ground so I will change it…..
Mike Sauka from the Otterville club carved and painted this POLAR BEAR.
First price ribbon in the animal category.
Mike had as well painted the canvas as the backgound and the judges liked it.
Toronto Wood show , February 2020
Another first for Mike Saukas (Otterville)caricature and he had fun carving it !

It was a good start for 2020, but than the COVID Virus arrived and all the wood carving shows for the year were cancelled and no visits to the carving clubs until recently. The Senior Centre in Ingersoll started the carving club up again with the usual restrictions, like keeping distance and wearing face masks and so I am back on Friday mornings to carve in Ingersoll.

The Tri County Carving club in Otterville remains closed and will likely not open for a while.

Nevertheless carving continued at home , but with reduced projects and mainly working on wood burnings….

Walrus
Friendly Birds

However a few more conventional carvings were done and the 3 Otters (which were started still in Otterville) got finished at home.

Just recently a relief carving of a landscape with the inspiration from the Group of Seven was another colorful project and while it will not go to any carving show it will be on display at the local Station Arts show in Tillsonburg in December.

The Station Arts center in Tillsonburg will also feature a Holiday Arts Market Sale from December 7 to 19,2020 and I will show some of the various items like in the following pictures……

The Covid regulations stopped our usual carving meetings and carving shows for the year and so I maintained mainly some wood burning projects, which are easily done at home.
